Ever since I started surfing, I have enjoyed surf movies. Coincidentally, when I made the leap to become a filmmaker almost a decade ago, I also discovered inflatable surfmats. At that time, there was only minimal information about this obscure wave riding practice available. Soon I had the idea to combine my newly found love for prone surfing with my passion for visual storytelling and to create something that was missing. 

Prone wave riding, except boogie boarding, does not get much exposure in the surf media. Probably because it is visually not as exciting and dramatic. But I think that's a shame as there is much more to prone surfing than what meets the eye. 

For me, it is a unique feeling that maybe only the initiated can genuinely appreciate. And more importantly, it is about the unusual people you have never heard of, who ride waves on surfmats, bellyboards, handplanes and other little known surfing gear.

So here we are with a collection of video portraits and short films that are a bit different from what you usually see in the surf media. They are my way to capture the beauty and poetry of these unique surfing practices on the fringe of our broader surfing community. 

I hope you will enjoy these fringe surfer stories as much as I have enjoyed creating them.
